Course description: Techniques for the quantitative analysis and measurement of the vibration of mechanical systems and structures are studied. Students will learn to characterize systems based upon dynamic response to external excitation. This will lead to a series of course projects to design and construct vibration absorbers and suspension systems. Topics including free and forced vibration of discrete and continuous systems, digital signal processing and random and nonlinear vibration will be covered to support the design process. Vibration measurements will be taken using industry- standard hardware and software.
